Job Summary:

The Safety Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety protocols to prevent workplace accidents and ensure compliance with local regulations and company policies. This role involves risk assessment, incident investigation, and the promotion of a proactive safety culture on site.

Key Responsibilities:

Policy Implementation: Develop and enforce site-specific safety plans (SSP) and emergency response procedures.

Inspections: Conduct daily site walkthroughs to identify hazards, unsafe acts, and environmental concerns.

Training: Conduct safety orientations for new employees and regular toolbox talks regarding fire safety, manual handling, and working at heights.

Permit Management: Review and authorize high-risk work permits (e.g., hot work, confined space, lifting operations).

Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into near misses, accidents, and property damage; prepare detailed reports with root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Reporting: Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and safety statistics; submit regular reports to management.

Equipment Oversight: Inspect and maintain safety equipment (fire extinguishers, first aid kits, PPE) to ensure availability and functionality.

Compliance: Ensure the site complies with local government regulations (e.g., DOSH, OSHA, or local municipality standards).

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.

Certification: NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA 30, or equivalent recognized safety certification is mandatory.

Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a safety role within the construction or industrial sector.

Skills: Strong observational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and excellent communication skills.

Attributes: High ethical standards, assertiveness, and the ability to stop unsafe work without hesitation.
