Manager; Head Office Audits (Re-advertised) at NMB Bank
Job Purpose:
The position is responsible for assisting the Senior Manager; Head Office audits in planning, conducting and leading Head Office audits and any other audit assigned by providing leadership during the planning, execution, reporting and follow up.
The position is also responsible for coaching audit staff, ensuring their professional growth so that they can contribute effectively to the realization of the vision and mission of Internal Audit Function (IAF).
Main Responsibilities:
Audit Delivery & stakeholders management
- Responsible for assisting Senior Managers in ensuring key risks (including fraud risks) and controls relating to Head Office processes are well understood by the audit team.
- In consultation with the Senior Manager, review risk assessments and audit programs for change or improvements, if any.
- Ensure audits are carried out in line with International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing as issued from time to time by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
- Provide guidance to auditors during audit assignments with emphasis on process understanding, risk identification and assessment, root cause identification and development of recommendations that address the root causes.
- Review and issue draft audit reports that meet the required standard for reporting to the management and make oral or written presentations on those issues at the request of management or at his/her own initiative.
- Lead discussions with business leaders regarding audit observations and root causes to audit issues and consult the Senior Manager/Head of Internal Audit/CIA where applicable.
- Ensure that documentation throughout the audit lifecycle (scoping, understanding processes, identifying risks and controls, assessing controls, and identifying issues) is accurate, reflective of work performed and supports conclusions drawn.
- Lead trend analysis of audit issues for Head Office audits identifying areas that need focus, root causes of issues noted and areas that should be subjected to data analytics.
- Perform follow-up audit reviews to determine the extent to which root causes of issues observed have been closed and supported with sufficient, reliable, and relevant evidence.
- Ensure completion of the Teammate file and all work has been properly documented and signed off.
Management and Leadership
- Provide leadership to Auditors through coaching and providing constructive feedback including formal performance management to ensure personal and professional growth of auditors under his/her supervision.
- Provide regular training to auditors in areas that need improvement in the audit process.
- Manage audit teams and ensure that audits progress as planned with regards to scope, budget, and timetable.
Knowledge Management
- Improve technical knowledge as well as soft skills through self-learning or training including mandatory CPE requirements.
- Sharing knowledge with the audit team and peers in the business through presentations; and
- Provide pieces of advice to the business at business request or his/her own initiative that will contribute to improvement of risk management, controls and governance matters in the bank.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of applying internal audit standards (IPPF) to perform value adding internal audit standards.
- Knowledge of applying internal audit standards issued by ISACA and IIA.
- Knowledge of audit tools such as ACL, IDEA, Microsoft Vision etc.
- Knowledge of risks and controls of banking operations.
- Ability to exercise critical thinking and professional skepticism in the audit process.
- Understanding fraud risk assessment and evaluation of control adequacy in either detecting or preventing fraud incidences.
- Analytical mind with the ability to interpret key data/facts.
- Leadership skills in particular ability to lead and couch teams towards a common goal.
- Management skill's particular ability to manage multiple assignments/projects.
- Sound communication skills both written and oral.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Banking & Finance, Accounting, Economics, Finance or related fields from a recognized university.
- Possession of auditing professional qualifications i.e., CIA, CPA, ACCA or CISA is a must.
- Master's degree in related fields will be an added advantage.
- At least 4 years' experience in Audit, 2 of which should be at supervisory role (Team leader) in a bank or an audit firm responsible for financial institutions.
