About this role

The positions are intended to support C-Weed Mwani’s expanding activities in seaweed cultivation, marine resource management, laboratory quality control, R&D, agricultural biostimulants and product development.

Purpose of the position

To support C-Weed Mwani’s Quality Control, Laboratory and R&D activities through reliable execution of routine physicochemical, analytical and microbiological testing of seaweed, seaweed-derived products, agricultural biostimulants, food-related materials and other products under development.

The ideal candidate should be a practical laboratory technician who is comfortable with both wet chemistry and microbiological laboratory work, rather than someone whose experience is limited to one area.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine physicochemical and analytical testing of raw materials, intermediate products and finished products.
  • Conduct wet chemistry analyses according to approved laboratory methods and
  • Perform routine microbiological testing, including preparation of media, sample preparation, microbial enumeration and related analyses.
  • Operate, maintain and perform basic troubleshooting of laboratory
  • Prepare reagents, standards, solutions and culture media
  • Perform laboratory calculations, record results and maintain complete laboratory
  • Assist in method verification, method development and laboratory R&D
  • Support sampling, sample preparation, testing and
  • Maintain laboratory records in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Follow laboratory SOPs, safety procedures and quality control
  • Support implementation and maintenance of laboratory systems aligned with ISO/IEC 17025
  • Participate in calibration, verification and routine maintenance activities for laboratory
  • Identify abnormal results, out-of-specification results and analytical problems and report them appropriately.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, chemical safety and good
  • Support QC and R&D testing activities as

Equipment experience

  • Experience operating or working with the following would be highly desirable:
  • UV-Visible Spectrophotometer
  • Viscometer
  • Mufle Furnace
  • Soxhlet Apparatus
  • Other routine analytical and microbiological laboratory equipment

Minimum qualifications

  • Diploma in Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Sciences, Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology or a closely related discipline.
  • Practical laboratory experience is strongly

Required technical competencies

  • Wet chemistry and analytical laboratory
  • Basic microbiological
  • Accurate sample preparation and laboratory
  • Good laboratory documentation and data
  • Understanding of GLP and laboratory quality
  • Basic understanding of ISO/IEC
  • Ability to follow SOPs and standardized analytical
  • Ability to interpret laboratory results and identify unusual or inconsistent

Added advantages

  • Tissue culture

  • Experience with food, agricultural, environmental or natural-product
  • Experience with method validation/verification.
  • Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited
