Job Purpose

The successful candidate will ensure that all operations are carried out as per Fire and Safety Acts/legislation of Tanzania, NOSA IMS and ISO 9001:2015 at Kilombero Sugar to achieve and maintain safety and quality standards.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Identify fire risks associated with the process of KSC and communicate this with the HS Manager.
• Ensure that adequate numbers of correct types of fire extinguishing are present.
• Ensure that all fire team members are trained and that the appointment letters are signed.
• Facilitate Fire Hazardous Identification and Risk at your area of responsibility and ensure that it has been communicated to all employees especially of the area identified through fire drills (wet drills, Dry drills, and desktop exercises)
• Ensure that all paints and other liquids (petrol, diesel, alcohol,) used in area of your responsibility have been identified, specific MSDS are available on site. The chemicals are properly stored, and the correct waste management process is followed for disposal.
• Make sure that all the fire incidents in your area of responsibility have been reported, investigated and that corrective(s) and preventive action(s) have been put in place.
• Ensure that all the Fire Fighting Equipment is available, effective, visible, accessible and that employees have been trained on usage of fire equipment.
• Ensure an emergency plan has been developed, communicated and well understood by all employees within the area of your responsibility.
• Ensure that all the Procedures and Checklists related to fire issues are effectively drawn up based on risk identified, implemented and communicated.
• Monitor the action plan related to ire, which includes NOSA Certification Audit, Servicing Certificates, and others related to Fire Safety requirements.
• Ensure the Fire Diesel Pump is tested/run for 30 minutes every Friday and 1 hour for the last Friday of the month.

Job Qualification and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Safety or Risk Management
• SAMTRAC/NEBOSH qualification, ISO 9000 Lead Auditor qualification would be an added advantage
• 2-3 years’ experience in an operational environment (Factory/Agriculture) working in a health and safety role.
• Training in First Aid is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of relevant Occupational Health & Safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to plan, organise and track activities for self and others. Problem solving and analytical skills. Sound interpersonal and communication skills to be able to convey information effectively and influence others.
