Job Summary

Our client in the Luxury Hospitality industry is seeking a highly qualified, caring, and professional Childcare Attendant to provide exceptional care and supervision to children within a luxury hospitality environment in Zanzibar.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, engaging, and enjoyable environment for children, while providing parents and guardians with confidence and peace of mind. The role requires someone who genuinely enjoys working with children, communicates confidently in English, understands child safety and age appropriate care, and demonstrates patience, responsibility, discretion, and professionalism at all times.

Candidates currently living in Zanzibar are preferred, although highly qualified candidates from other locations will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive, responsible, and professional care and supervision to children entrusted to their care.
  • Ensure the safety, comfort, hygiene, and general wellbeing of children at all times.
  • Plan and facilitate engaging, educational, creative, and age appropriate activities for children.
  • Engage children through games, storytelling, arts and crafts, learning activities, and supervised recreational activities.
  • Monitor children closely during indoor and outdoor activities and maintain a safe environment at all times.
  • Communicate professionally and confidently with parents and guardians regarding children’s needs, activities, routines, and wellbeing.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to the individual needs, personalities, routines, and age groups of different children.
  • Maintain clean, organized, hygienic, and child friendly activity and childcare areas.
  • Ensure toys, play equipment, and childcare materials are clean, safe, properly maintained, and suitable for use.
  • Recognize potential safety hazards and immediately take appropriate action or report concerns to the relevant supervisor.
  • Respond calmly and responsibly to minor incidents, emergencies, behavioural concerns, or other situations involving children.
  • Support children’s meal, refreshment, rest, and personal care routines where required and appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries, confidentiality, discretion, and respect when dealing with children and their families.
  • Work closely with other hotel departments to accommodate family requirements and special guest requests.
  • Provide warm, personalized, and professional service that reflects the standards expected within a luxury hospitality environment.
  • Follow all applicable child safeguarding, hygiene, health and safety, emergency, and hotel operating procedures.

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience working directly with children, preferably in a childcare facility, school, nursery, family environment, hotel, resort, or similar setting.
  • Previous experience in a luxury hotel, resort, international school, professional childcare environment, or with international families will be a strong added advantage.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English is required, with the confidence to communicate professionally with international guests, parents, and children. Comparable Zanzibar luxury childcare roles likewise make confident or fully conversational English a core requirement.
  • Good command of Kiswahili is required. Knowledge of an additional international language will be an added advantage.
  • Genuine passion for working with children, with a warm, patient, caring, energetic, and approachable personality.
  • Good understanding of child safety, hygiene, age appropriate activities, and the developmental needs of children.
  • Ability to supervise children responsibly while remaining attentive and alert to potential risks.
  • First Aid and CPR training, particularly involving infants and children, will be a strong added advantage. This is also commonly sought in professional hospitality childcare roles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust with both children and parents.
  • Creative and confident in organizing games, educational activities, arts and crafts, and recreational programmes.
  • Ability to remain calm, responsible, and professional when handling emergencies, challenging behaviour, or unexpected situations.
  • High level of trustworthiness, discretion, personal integrity, and responsibility.
