The Key Purpose to this role is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of one or more discrete brewing processes, including Wort Cooling, Yeast Management, Filtration, and Quality at Source. The role is responsible for executing maintenance activities, conducting quality control checks and analyses, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and coaching fellow team members to ensure the consistent production of high-quality products at optimum cost.

Responsibilities or duties

Plant and Process Operations

  • Optimise plant and process performance to achieve operational targets.
  • Operate Brew House plant and process equipment.
  • Operate Fermentation plant and process equipment.
  • Operate Filtration plant and process equipment.
  • Perform housekeeping activities in accordance with 5S principles.
  • Follow all safe work practices and ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Identify and correct unsafe work practices and conditions.
  • Support the development, drafting, and documentation of standard work procedures, including quick-fix routines and problem-solving processes.
  • Complete autonomous maintenance tasks as required.

Quality Control and Analysis

  • Conduct required quality checks and analyses according to established procedures.
  • Accurately record quality results on the relevant information systems.
  • Apply appropriate problem-solving techniques, such as quick-fix routines, to resolve quality-related issues.
  • Escalate identified or unresolved quality concerns to the Team Leader.
  • Support the maintenance of product quality standards throughout the production process.

Communication

  • Actively participate in meetings, shift handovers, and goal review sessions.
  • Use checklists to record issues, problems, corrective actions, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of team goals and contribute to achieving them.
  • Utilise communication tools and platforms, including shift logbooks, to stay informed and communicate effectively with team members.

Problem Solving

  • Respond promptly to upstream and downstream process triggers that could result in out-of-control situations.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies, including: 5 Whys (5Y), Quick Fix Routines, Root Cause Analysis.
  • Identify, analyse, and resolve operational and quality issues to minimise downtime and production losses.

Teamwork and People Development

  • Develop and coach fellow team members in operational and technical skills.
  • Support knowledge sharing and cross-skilling among Brewery Technicians.
  • Contribute positively to team performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work shifts and flexible working hours.
  • Understanding of manufacturing, brewing, fermentation, filtration, or production processes will be advantageous.
