JOB DETAILS:
Job Overview.
This role involves supervising laboratory greenhouse personnel, providing leadership, guidance and support to ensure adherence to protocols and safety procedures for banana production operations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Sourcing of replicators: Manage tissue culture operations to support banana seed programs, ensuring efficient production and duplication of plant materials.
• Sourcing of bananas for the lab: Monitor sourcing of bananas under controlled conditions (laboratories), ensuring production of uniform banana crop, higher yields and elimination of risks of pests and diseases.
• Management of laboratory and nursery: Ensure that the laboratory is kept in a clean and good operating condition, including working with outside vendors as needed.
• Replications of seeds: Oversee tissue culture-derived seedlings, maintaining optimal growing conditions for healthy plant development.
• Training of Lab technicians: Responsible to provide training and oversight to new technicians.
• Primary & secondary hardening: Manage plant hardening to ensure improving the quality of bananas which enables them to resist water loss.
• Hygiene management: Ensure all employees are operating safely and following all company health and safety standards.
• Maintain clean room protocols: In collaboration with other team members, develop, update and maintain accurate protocols for tissue culture process.
• Management of quantities per month: Manage the entire tissue process and maintain accurate quantities records at every month. Results need to be presented to management and key stakeholders.
• Additional Duties: Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required by the organization.

Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor Degree in the related field. Masters will be an added advantage.
• Experience: 4 – 5 years of similar or related work experience, specifically in tissue culture laboratory operations (with a focus on bananas).
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to use logical or scientific thinking to solve complex problems involving several abstract and concrete variables.
• Communication Skills: Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, capable of working effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
