JOB DETAILS:
Technical Lead – WAM, Kenya and Tanzania
The starting salary package for this position is £71,028 GBP / approx. $93,562 USD including all allowances.

About MAG
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the role
Reporting to the Country Director, the Technical Lead will be responsible for implementing all aspects of Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) operations and related tasks in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and international best practice. As a member of the Senior Management Team; this role offers ample space for the correct candidate to build long term partnerships that help define MAG’s programmatic direction, and consolidate MAG as a key strategic actor across the region.

This role will include conducting technical risk assessments, coordinating and providing technical oversight on WAM projects and the post holder therefore must have prior experience of working with IATGs and MOSAICs. The role may include weapons and munition destruction, design and delivery of PSSM training, and design and oversight of rehabilitation and/or construction of new facilities.

The post holder will also be required to support the programme by contributing technical knowledge and clearance targets into proposals and reports. They will also lead liaison efforts with national authorities and Security and Defence Forces, while coordinating with MAG’s Programme Quality Team to align in-country activities with organizational standards. This position plays a crucial role in improving safety, security, and operational effectiveness in WAM across MAG’s global operations.

About you
You must have experience of working in weapon and ammunition management (WAM/SALW/PSSM) type operations in countries that are contaminated by remnants of conflict. You must also have relevant professional training, including EOD 3 IMAS qualification with in field experience of operations and conducting bulk demolitions.

Additionally, you will have proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships, with competing expectations and priorities diplomatically. The ability to work autonomously, coordinate a high volume of operational activities across two country locations, and develop, review and comply with security and technical Standard Operating Procedures is essential. You will also be experienced in leading, motivating and managing a diverse team of people, and in mentoring and coaching others.

About the Kenya and Tanzania programme
MAG is opening two new country offices in the coming months thanks to the recent successful bid for Physical Security & Stockpile Management funding in Kenya and Tanzania. MAG will be building on years of regional expertise to establish a foundation for a long-term weapons and ammunition program, that works in close coordination with the national Small Arms and Light Weapons focal points and key Security sector actors.
