The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) mission is to protect the lands and waters upon which all life depends. As a science-based organization, TNC uses innovative on-the-ground solutions to the world’s toughest challenges to create a world in which people and nature thrive. In the United Republic of Tanzania, TNC is working with communities, local government, and other stakeholders to advance community-based management of fisheries resources around Lake Tanganyika.

Studies from other places of the fisher communities, including Lake Tanganyika, report less voice and engagement of women in leadership of fisheries and other natural resources management. TNC recognizes that mainstreaming gender in environmental conservation and livelihood development is inherently a social process that relies on responding to the needs and interests of both men and women.

To address the dynamics, The Nature Conservancy through the Tuungane Program wishes to hire a contractor to construct a women’s center in Buhingu village that will function as a platform for women’s gatherings in acquiring various knowledge and skills to increase their participation in conservation and management of natural resources. The purpose of this consultancy is to get an experienced constructor who is ready to visit the site before engagement for assessment and thereafter construct the women’s center as per the government standards. The constructor will be working under the guidance and supervision of the Uvinza District Council.
