Key Responsibilities:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Activity
Effective Project Implementation on animal production, nutrition, local value chain development and PPP engagements. (50%)
• In collaboration with APs, identify and recruit project participants according to the required vulnerability criteria. In addition, mobilize formation and/or strengthening of groups of animal producers for collective action.
• Create synergies between project activities with Wasa AP, and THRIVE 2030 project to leverage WVT National Office strategy towards child wellbeing.
• Train targeted beneficiaries on good and improved agricultural practices in livestock keeping. The trainings include how to prepare animals’ shelter, food, care and other related technical skills for enhanced livestock production.
• In collaboration with District livestock officers, LITI, SUA and other relevant private entities, support procurement, inspection and distribution of animals (cattle, goats, pigs and poultry) and starter-kits for animal food.
• Train project beneficiaries on how to make an adequate feed by using locally available materials to reduce cost of operation and sustainability in animal keeping around Wasa AP community.
• Facilitate project beneficiaries on water harvesting best practises so as to have enough drinking water for animals.
• Promotion of value addition techniques and technologies related to livestock and dairy farming. This will be done in collaboration with other relevant partners to identify and train farmers on basic and user-friendly technologies that will improve the value of the animal produce.
• Facilitate market linkage for animal products i.e. link farmers with a dairy factory which collects milk every day from farmers based in Iringa, train farmers on how to secure lucrative markets for their produce using the Local Value Chain Development (LVCD) approach in collaboration with APs and THRIVE 2030 project
• Support establishment of cold chain facilities – milk kiosks, meat and egg outlets
• Facilitate development of a primary milk collection centre at community level in target area
• Training of farmers on milk processing and preservation technology.
End Results
• Effective project implementation according to Log frame and budget to ensure it achieves increase in animal production, improve nutrition, value chain development for local produces for increased food security and income to the most vulnerable households.
Activity
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) and Reporting (20%)
• Adapt in collaboration with APs colleagues, the project theory of change;
• Participate in development and implementation of the programme’s impact measurement system, including: collection of baseline and periodic data for tracking programme performance and decision making;
• Participate in preparing and sharing of quality project progress reports as per provided timeframe and submit to the AP manager.
• Take part in annual programme review meeting to assess progress, adjust plans, and draw/disseminate lessons learned;
• Participate in documentation and dissemination of stories of transformation and lessons learned.
End Results
• Quality monitoring, evaluation, reporting and learning to enhance tracking project progress towards goal and influence decision-making.
Activity
Networking, visibility and donor recognition (15%)
• Establish and maintain good relations with partners, LGAs and stakeholders concerning the implementation and accountability.
• Ensures project interventions and donor are recognized by the government, partners and communities through project branding, participation in different forums including national, zonal, regional and local events.
• Develop and support effective linkages and collaboration with key public institutions like Animal Research Institutes e.g. LITI, colleges/Universities e.g. SUA etc.
• Represent the project in various assigned learning and sharing meetings/workshops/conferences.
• Facilitate documentation and sharing of processes, challenges, best practices and lessons learnt.
End Results
• Build network and create a positive image about the project, donor and WV in general
Activity
Project Budget and Resource Management (15%)
• Participate in annual and multiyear project budget plans, reviews and report preparation in collaboration with finance staff.
• Ensure compliance with WVT finance policy and donor requirements in management and use of financial and non-financial resources;
• Take part in management of project funds, including monitoring of monthly budget burn rates, budget re-alignments, and support internal and external auditing;
• Creating synergies and resource leverage with government and other actors through facilitating integrated and collaborative planning and budgeting.
End Results
• Effective budget management according to WV and donor standards
KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE
Required Professional Experience
• A minimum of 3 years relevant experience of implementing animal production projects in rural settings.
• Demonstrated experience in a Project Management role and use of project management cycle in the delivery of development projects is required.
• Demonstrated experience in implementing a multi-sectoral project is an advantage.
• Experience implementing donor funded projects
• Experience in delivering technical assistance and/or institutional capacity building is an asset
Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification
Preferably, Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science and Production with at least 3 years’ experience in domestic animal management integrated with crop production and nutrition.
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications
• A clear and undoubted experience in delivering short- and long-term projects
• Excellent communication and presentation skills in English and Swahili
• Significant experience in working with government officials, donors, and multi-partner programmes
• Proven experience in facilitating effective project documentation and dissemination of results to a wide range of audiences.
• Ability to work on tight deadlines
• Strong commitment to WV Values, Mission and Vision.
Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement
• Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field.
• Travel: 10% Domestic/international travel is required.
• On call: 5%.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in rural areas.
Primary location will be WASA Area Programme.
Language Requirements
Fluent in both Swahili and English languages.
