Background

About Foundations for Learning (F4L): Foundations for Learning (F4L) is a five-year initiative (2020-2025), co-funded by Global Affairs Canada and AKF, and executed by AKDN education agencies. F4L aims to enhance pre-primary and primary educational systems, bolster women’s empowerment, and promote gender equality in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. By addressing gender, social, cultural, and economic barriers, F4L seeks to improve equitable learning outcomes and basic human rights for women and girls. Notably, F4L has engaged with 12 design teams in Lindi, Mtama, and Ruangwa district councils, as well as 20 teams in Kenya, to improve sustainable and nutritious school feeding programs in line with the Ministry of Education’s 2023 mandate.
2. Objective of the Consultancy
To enhance the nutritional knowledge and capacity of district and ward nutrition officers, teachers, and community design team members, ensuring the effective implementation of sustainable and nutritious school feeding programs within the F4L project scope.
3. Scope of Work
The Nutrition Expert Consultant will be responsible for the following tasks: 1. Assess Knowledge Gaps:
o Conduct a comprehensive assessment to identify the nutritional knowledge gaps among district and ward nutrition officers, teachers, and community design team members.
1. Develop Training Materials:
• Create tailored training materials that address the identified knowledge gaps and meet the needs of the target audience.
2. Design Evaluation Tools:
• Develop pre-and post-training assessments to measure knowledge acquisition and training effectiveness.
3. Deliver Training:
• Facilitate nutrition capacity-building sessions for 3 district and 60 ward extension officers, and schools’ representatives from 10 schools from Lindi Mtama, Ruangwa, and Lindi Municipal councils.
4. Develop Nutrition Materials:
• Produce context-specific nutrition awareness and informative materials featuring real photos and detailed descriptions of various nutrition components.
5. Reporting:
• Compile and submit a detailed activity report outlining the training process, participant feedback, and recommendations for future actions.
Specific Deliverables
• A detailed assessment report on nutritional knowledge gaps.
• Comprehensive training materials tailored to the needs of the target groups.
• Pre-and post-training assessment tools.
• Successfully conducted training sessions with documented participant feedback.
• Contextualized nutrition awareness materials with real photos and descriptions.
• A final activity report summarizing training outcomes and recommendations.
Qualifications and Experience
• Advanced degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field.
• Proven experience in developing and delivering nutrition training programs.
• Expertise in conducting nutritional assessments and developing educational materials.
• Strong understanding of community-driven approaches and sustainable school feeding programs.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
• Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, educators, and community members.

Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
1. General understanding of the ToR 30%
2. Methodology approaches/Technical proposal 30%
3. Experience in executing related/similar assignments 30%
4. The proposed budgeted costs of the project 10%
