Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and committed Intern to support the implementation of its community-based economic empowerment initiatives in Ifakara, Tanzania. The intern will work closely with the Program Coordinator to assist in community outreach, project monitoring, free interest loan program support, financial documentation, and administrative tasks. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in inclusive financing, grassroots development, and non-profit operations, while contributing to sustainable and locally driven change.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify eligible loan applicants, assess their business/project viability, and guide them through the application process.
  • Create and maintain loan application forms, evaluation tools, and repayment tracking systems.
  • Conduct outreach to identify and engage potential beneficiaries and cooperatives.
  • Follow up on repayment schedules, address challenges, and ensure compliance with agreements.
  • Maintain accurate financial records including cashbooks, receipts, and expenditure reports.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all financial transactions related to loan disbursements, client repayments, and operational costs.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and manage petty cash and revolving fund records.
  • Monitor the progress of funded projects and provide technical support and business development.
  • Collect testimonials and document success stories to demonstrate impact.
  • Organize and support training sessions in cooperative management, financial literacy, and vocational skills.
  • Represent the NGO in community events, stakeholder forums, and training workshops.
  • Capture and document field activities through photography, stories, and reports.
  • Take minutes during meetings and maintain follow-up action lists.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator to support project operations.

 

Qualification and Experience                                                               

Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Rural Development, Development Planning and Management, Finance and Accounting, Business Administration, or related fields.

Skills and Competences

  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Office, especially Excel and Word).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and report-writing abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • High level of professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • Fluency in both English and Swahili (preferred).

Remuneration

This is an unpaid internship. However, the intern will receive a monthly living subsistence allowance to support basic needs, along with hands-on mentorship, professional development opportunities, and fieldwork exposure in a dynamic community development setting.
