To contribute to this mission, JSI is currently recruiting for a Deputy Chief of Party for the anticipated Tanzania USAID SBC Mechanism award.
The project aims to catalyze opportunities for Tanzanians to improve their health status by transforming socio-cultural norms and supporting the adoption of healthier behaviors. The activity provides technical assistance to the GOT to improve the policy and implementation framework around SBC activities. It also help design, implement and monitor specific SBC interventions at the sub-national level when such efforts are required (e.g., infectious disease outbreak).
The DCOP will provide technical leadership to support the project’s SBC vision, design, and implementation. The DCOP will work closely with the COP to advance technical excellence across the project; and lead all technical aspects of the project, including implementation of SBC technical frameworks, tools, and approaches. They will work closely with all consortium partners as well as external stakeholders including the GOT to ensure specific health and behavioral priorities are reflected in the project work, and to facilitate collaboration and learning across contexts, health areas, and approaches. This role is a member of the Senior Management Team and will report to the COP.
The DCOP will be responsible for coordinating all interventions of the Tanzania SBC Project and providing technical oversight of the project staff. The DCOP will assist the COP in overall project leadership and liaising with the Government of Tanzania, USAID and other key stakeholders. The DCOP is a member of the Senior Management Team of the project and reports to the Chief of Party.
This position will be based in Dar es Salaam.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate closely with senior staff, technical advisors, and partners to develop the project’s strategic direction, and to develop and implement core work and monitoring plans, ensuring alignment with USAID priorities and global best practices.
• Provide overall technical oversight of and creates space for innovation and technical excellence in all program activities, including strategic guidance for the documentation and dissemination of technical content and project results.
• Supervise or direct partner work, Technical Advisors and Specialists in a matrixed environment according to both planned and requested priorities of USAID, ensuring that global and country-level activities are complementary and facilitate overall achievement of project vision.
• Mentor and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, including thoughtful alignment of skill-to-activity work planning and purposeful cultivation of project staff talent and capacity.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree in public health, social sciences, international development, or a related field is required.
• At least five years of senior level management experience in the design, implementation,
• and management of an activity of similar size, complexity, and setting
• Demonstrated experience in the design of SBC interventions.
• Leadership skills and experience in building and maintaining productive working
• relationships with a wide network of institutional stakeholders, including host
• government representatives at all levels, who may have divergent interests.
• Strong knowledge of the Government of Tanzania SBC initiatives and related
• implementation structures.
• Exceptional personnel and project management skills; able to successfully lead a team with multiple competing priorities to consistently submit timely, high quality deliverables
• Experience building collaborative relationships with donors, government, and non-government stakeholders, including communities and civil society organizations
• Fluency in English and Kiswahili with strong oral and written communication. Other local language/s is a plus.
