JOB DETAILS:
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
• Lead and expand Roots & Shoots activities in the Unguja and Pemba regions, establishing, rejuvenating, and strengthening clubs in schools and areas where needed.
• Supervise and coordinate compassionate Roots & Shoots actions on the environment, animals, and communities.
• Nurture Roots & Shoots volunteers, interns, teachers, and youth leaders in compassionate action within the thematic areas of the environment, animals, and communities.
• Represent the National Coordinator in stakeholders’ meetings and established networks within the zone.
• Facilitate membership registrations, certifications, and organize club activities and events within the zone.
• Collaborate with the National Coordinator to raise funds for the Roots & Shoots program, securing resources for activities and projects.
• Coordinate and facilitate visits from National and International Roots & Shoots members and JGI visitors to the zone.
• Support the implementation of different JGI-Tanzania strategic conservation projects/activities in Zanzibar as assigned.
• Under the guidance of the Scholarship Coordinator, support the implementation of the Zanzibar scholarship program (depending on the availability of funds).
• Provide updates and prepare relevant reports for submission to the National Coordinator.
• Oversee and manage all technical, logistical, and administrative operations within the Zanzibar zonal
• office.
Ensure the safety and security of all Roots & Shoots assets in Zanzibar.
• Perform other official duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Minimum Job Qualifications and Other Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in education with a focus on Biology, Environmental Management, Wildlife
• Conservation, Ecological Studies, or Social Sciences.
• Experience in developing and implementing innovative conservation education programs for children and young people.
• Proven ability to lead, nurture, and manage a team of volunteers in social projects, ensuring effective collaboration and growth.
• Experience in designing and delivering outreach programs, including peace education, land-use planning, project monitoring and evaluation, and curriculum development.
• Experience in proposals, report writing, and fundraising to support program activities.
• Strong capacity to work independently, meet deadlines, and ensure timely submission of deliverables.
• Proficiency in working within diverse teams, valuing collaboration, clear communication, and shared responsibility.
• Fluency in both English and Kiswahili, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including SPSS, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience working with various agencies, government departments, UN agencies, and partners.
• Experience living in or working with communities in Zanzibar, particularly Unguja and Pemba, is highly desirable.
• Previous membership with Roots & Shoots is an added advantage.
