Job description:
• We are looking for a qualified ICT Officer to design stable and reliable clinical data systems, according to NIMR needs. You will be responsible for developing, testing, improving, and maintaining new and existing systems to help researchers/users collect and retrieve data effectively. As part of our IT team, he/she will work closely with developers to ensure system consistency. You will also collaborate with administrators and clients to provide technical support and identify new requirements. Communication and organization skills are keys for this position, along with a problem-solution attitude. Ultimately, you should be able to ensure our clinical data systems run effectively and securely on a daily basis.

Duties and responsibilities:
1. To design stable, reliable, and effective databases;
2. To optimize and maintain legacy systems;
3. To modify databases according to requests and perform tests;
4. To solve database usage issues and malfunctions;
5. To liaise with systems analysts and users to improve applications and establish best practices;
6. To gather user requirements and identify new features;
7. To develop technical and training manuals;
8. To provide data management support to users;
9. To ensure all database programs meet NIMR and performance requirements;
10. To suggest new database products, services, and protocols and 11. To perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum qualifications and experience:
Holder of Bachelor Degree in one of the following fields; Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent computer qualifications from recognized institutions with at least four (5) years working experience in software development.

Requirements;
Proven work experience as a Software engineer
1. Proficiency in python, SQL;
2. Proficiency with Django and collaborative development (git) an advantage;
3. Working experience in software development and database management systems;
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
5. Excellent analytical and organization skills;
6. An ability to understand front-end users’ requirements and a problem-solving attitude;

Reporting:
The Project Coordinator will report to Project Principal Investigator.

Contract:
A one-year contract may be renewed on the basis of performance and mutual agreement.

Duty station:
The successful candidate will be based at NIMR-Muhimbili, Dar es Salaam.

Compensation:
A competitive salary will be offered as per Government of Tanzania Regulations.

Work Hours: 8

Experience in Months: 60
